Highlights

Stunning mountain views, including Everest, serene Buddhist temples and many World Heritage sites, Nepal has many sides, and is a place to create unforgettable memories…

  • The main trekking areas in Nepal are Annapurna, Kathmandu, Chitwan, Everest and the far Eastern and Western regions. The Great Himalaya Trail is a route that connects all of the trekking regions.
  • This country has trekking opportunities for all abilities, and there are a mix of high and low altitude routes throughout the country.
  • No matter where you trek it is important to understand the symptoms of altitude sickness, and how to acclimatise your body for trekking.
  • You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to enjoy some of Nepal’s trails, provided you are fit enough to walk up inclines and descents for several hours. Guided day treks are available, usually with a teahouse to provide refreshments afterwards.
  • Despite being a popular place for trekkers, Nepal is still a fairly remote country, and in the mountain regions it takes effort for supplies to be brought in. That being said, you will find plenty of rice and lentil dishes to fuel your hiking trips.
  • The Nepalese culture is friendly and welcoming. You will find teahouses that provide lodgings, as well as campsites and rooms available in people’s homes.
  • Hiking in Nepal is best during the dry seasons. March to June and September to November are the best times to plan a trek. The temperatures are at their mildest, and there is less chance of rain.
  • Nepal has two monsoon seasons, one in summer and one in winter. It’s still possible to trek during these times however you can expect cold, wet weather.
  • In the winter monsoon season, many mountain routes will be closed and there is an increased risk of avalanches.
  • Nepal is a beautiful place to go trekking, and getting to know the Nepalese people who live life in the mountains is an honour you’ll treasure for the rest of your life.
