Tanzania is a country in East Africa, best most known for its treks around the famous Mount Kilimanjaro.
Kilimanjaro, at 5896 metres elevation, is the tallest free-standing volcano in the world.
A hike to the summit sees many ecological climates, from cultivated plantation and lush rain-forests at the lower levels, to desert alpine and snow-capped peaks, the diversity alone makes for a wonderful trek.
A similar trek, though one that is much more overlooked, is a hike to the summit of Mount Meru. This is Tanzania’s second highest peak at 4566 metres high.
This is a challenging climb with steep inclines and sheer drops – not for the faint-hearted!
